“Young humpback whales are always very playful. They like to interact with other animals and of course with humans. But it’ll be up to the mother to decide if the young one can play with an underwater photographer like me! I took this picture in Rurutu, French Polynesia, where I got to spend an hour and half with a calf and his mother. From the start she was totally ok to leave him with me. He was getting more and more confident and at some point we started an imitation game: if I was diving down and spin on the side he’d do the same, then I was also imitating his moves.
