Today I had some business to do in Tokyo, so I took the train and like usually, hopped on the “Green Car” which is a special wagon of the train that costs more but you can sit down and eat - as long as it’s not something smelly like nikuman (pork buns) ? At my station there’s a patisserie called “LA MARÈE DE CHAYA” , that has even more shops spread throughout Kanagawa prefecture! They specialize in French pastries, both fresh and ones that hold on for a couple of weeks. When I hear “patisserie” I usually think of cute, sugary and colorful edibles. But CHAYA is a bit different - their pastries are elegant, could do with some more sugar and some of them even contain liquor. You could say it’s a grown up patisserie and your elderly uncle is probably buying cake from them right now ? Today my attention was caught by the “cadeaux au chocolate”, with one box containing a palm sized serving it costed around $2.30. I also grabbed a Florentine just because, you know, I like them! ? Cadeaux Au Chocolate is super popular in Japan and if you’re a chocoholic like you’ll absolutely fall in love with this creation! It’s like eating chocolate, except that it’s a much richer experience because of the many sensations cadeaux au chocolate has to offer. Unlike with a piece of chocolate, you can really sink your teeth into the chocolatey mass, let it melt and the aroma unfold! It just depends if you’re able to get your hands on a good one! They even sell it in convenience stores. You can get two palm sized pieces for around only $2 and they taste pretty good...if you ignore the slight taste of fluor. So, this was my first time buying non convenience store cadeaux au chocolate and the difference was impressing. The CHAYA one had a deep cocoa taste, which was balanced by, to my surprise, orange aroma! I’m not sure if I’m the only one but orange and chocolate are a match made in heaven ?? It also did not have any traces of fluor in the taste. However if I were desperate for some chocolatey goodness I’d still get the convenience store version from 7/11, because it is still pretty good. But of course the CHAYA one definitely does taste more luxurious!
