Robert F. Kennedy celebrates his victory in the #California presidential primary with his wife Ethel behind him at the podium at the Ambassador Hotel in #LosAngeles on June 5, 1968.
.
Fifty years ago, the New York senator who was running for president was shot in the head by a gunman at the hotel. A Mexican immigrant working as a hotel busboy held #RFK as he lay on the ground, struggling to keep the senator’s bleeding head from hitting the cold floor.
.
Some view the former busboy as an example of the type of people #BobbyKennedy sought to help in making racial equality and #civilrights a cornerstone of his life’s work.
.
The next day, the man who had excited Latino, black, poor and anti-Vietnam War voters, was dead at the age of 42.
