For the next few days my duty as an Artist in Residence at the La Gacilly-Baden Photo Festival in Austria is quite challenging: to come up with photographs of great photographic work (here the work of Baudouin Mouanda). If you are in or near Vienna on June 8th, come join us for the festival opening with free Austrian and African meals, including Austrian and French wines for 2000 people -- and enjoy 35 exhibitions in an open air gallery of 2.5 miles length! Many of the artist will be attending.

Photographers from all over the world – including TPS members @brentstirton, @dchancellordavid and @Joel Sartore - show fascinating work which will be on display until September 30th.
The festival La Gacilly-Baden Photo is a cooperation between the French photo festival @lagacillyphoto, the Austrian photographer and publisher Lois Lammerhuber and the city of Baden. In 2004, Jacques Rocher set up a photo festival in his birthplace of La Gacilly, Brittany, dedicated to the theme of man and the environment. From his conviction that it is our duty to search for humanistic and sustainable concepts for dealing with nature and living together in peace, he has shaped the festival into an event combining photojournalism, documentary and artistic photography with social relevance.

The is year’s motto in Baden is “I love Africa”. Screens of up to 2000 square ft in size transform the gardens, alleyways and squares of the city of Baden into a "picture-city". Its public space is taken over by works of photo art, focusing on geography and the environment.

This year’s festival marks the beginning of an extraordinary pan-European collaboration between La Gacilly and Baden. With a time delay of one year, the photo festival first takes place in La Gacilly, France and then, close to 12 months later, near identical exhibits go up in Baden, Austria.
