Photo by Nathan Benn // I’m going through my archives and scanning images that I find interesting (and the editors didn’t). I took this image in South Korea 1987, one of my last shoots for National Geographic.

Korean Living Treasure No. 48 was Lee Man Bong, the “Recommended Traditional Buddhist Artist.” Mr. Lee is a Buddhist monk with his home at Pomun Temple in Seoul bending over a painting-in-progress in his studio. Mr. Lee's works are in 170 of Korea's Buddhist temples and cultural landmarks throughout the country. Photographed December 23, 1987.
