At 7,100 feet elevation, Boar's Tusk is a dormant volcanic structure rising 400 feet above the valley floor in southwestern #Wyoming. Used as a landmark for hikers, mountain bikers and railroad travelers, this distinct feature is the core of a long dormant volcanic eruption. It’s also an exceptional place for stargazing with clear skies and very little light pollution. The Lamporite material that makes up the feature dates back 2.5 million years. Word of warning if you are going to venture here: A high-clearance vehicle is recommended for the access road. Photo courtesy of Erik Johnson (@erikjohnsonphotography). #usinterior #travel #milkyway
