This is a visual representation of HIV pushing through the membrane of a T cell and entering a person’s bloodstream. It is one of the final steps in the virus’s molecular journey. Cellular biologist and @TEDFellow Janet Iwasa spoke with dozens of HIV researchers and created this mesmerizing animation based on those conversations. Her goal is to find ways to translate scientific jargon into something that the general public can more easily understand. “We scientists have an obligation to communicate what we do, because the vast amount of it is publicly funded. This knowledge really should belong to everyone,” Janet says. “This project is an attempt to try and make it more accessible for those who are interested.” To learn more about her work, visit go.ted.com/hivanimation
