While going through the archive for an upcoming talk, I ran into these Arctic fox images that I created some years ago. I was a biology student at the @vuamsterdam at the time, doing research on climate change. I could never have known these first images I created would be the jumpstart of a career in photography.

During a field trip with @unisvalbard we briefly visited a research station further up North which was known to have an Arctic fox den around. It was drizzling and we only had four hours to visit the station. I decided to stay outside to see if I would have a chance to photograph Arctic foxes. After having waited for 3,5hours and with the ship about to leave, the sun finally came through and 6 little fox kits came out of the den to explore the Arctic tundra. I entered the images in a Dutch nature photography competition, which to my surprise awarded me as the overall winner of the contest. I decided to quit my education and dedicate my life to tell stories about the beauty and fragility of the natural world.
