I’ve had a fear of drowning ever since I was a child. Held under the water of a swimming pool on holiday so young I thought I was going to die and Had totally lost all confidence in water since. When I take my children swimming I stand nervously in the shallow end with them in armbands making sure they’re 100% safe and they stay by my side at all times. None of us can ever get our faces wet, go under water or breathe and it’s something I’ve been unable to shake for the past 20 years. I almost had a panic attack attempting to submerge myself in the ocean this holiday, but second by second, inch by inch I made it under and the sensation of conquering something which has utterly terrified me for so long is indescribable. To jump off of a boat and swim into bottomless open water with no arm bands or life vest watching turtles, sharks, fish, stingrays, sea cucumbers and starfish in the coral is breathtaking to say the least. I’ve literally become a Bond girl swimming in flippers with my arms down by my sides and the biggest smile on my face, no fear, no panic, no frantic scrambling or kicking anymore. The world below water is so incredibly peaceful and beautiful, I just can’t believe I’ve missed out on it for so long because of a fear that was never necessary so start with. Thank you to Freddy and @kandima_maldives for helping me to finally open my eyes to the ocean, you’ve changed my life - my darlings you have to do the same with your own fears in life because life is too short to live anything less than 100% ? --------------------------
