In early 2016, three #Syrian families joined tens of thousands of others crossing the Aegean Sea in one of the biggest refugee movements in modern history. For 18 months, TIME followed them as part of its @FindingHome project, as each brought a new child into the world. The project—reported by @arynebaker, @francescatrianni and @lynseyaddario—culminated with an interactive online feature on one of the families: Taimaa, her husband Mohannad, their young son, Wael, and their baby, Heln, who was born in Greece. The interactive—built by @david.kofahl and @timklimowicz—a personal look at the frustrations that come with asylum requests, calmer moments of motherhood and the struggles of fitting in. That feature, called Heln’s First Year, has been awarded First Prize in Innovative Storytelling at the @worldpressphoto festival in Amsterdam. See the full interactive at TIME.com/finding-home.
