#DanhVo’s "We the People" (2011-16), a recreation of the Statue of Liberty in more than three hundred sections, invites a reexamination of the statue’s meanings and role since its completion in 1886. What does the Statue of Liberty mean to you?

Swipe left to view archival photos from @librarycongress and @nypl—designed by sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, the statue started its life in pieces—the right hand (holding the torch) was shown at the 1876 Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia, and travelled to New York City, where it stood in Madison Square until 1882.
