To photograph the tiny King Bird-of-Paradise (in the previous post on my feed @Tim Laman), I had to build a platform up in the canopy of the tree next to the one where he had displayed. One good thing was that this small bird was not afraid of me or my big lens at all, so I didn’t need to be in a blind, unlike with most birds-of-paradise. For shooting with a big lens like this up in a tree, a platform that is big enough to mount your tripod such as my trusty Gitzo is absolutely critical.
