Look at the language on the 2 headlines. Notice the difference? Before reading the caption below, take a few moments to see if you can determine the problem. If you can’t (and most people can’t), it’s part of how we are subconsciously steered away from justice. Please read Patrick’s post below.

Repost from @moustachemannyc - “NYPD shot and killed another person today, this time in Crown Heights. He was carrying a metal pipe.
As the reports file in, take note of the language each news source uses. amNY got it right- a man was fatally shot by police. But CBS’s headline makes him a suspect. He may have been standing on a street corner minding his business, but according to them, he’s a suspect. And they lead with that description of him. He’s not just a person. He’s a person suspected of a crime. And he wasn’t just shot and killed by cops. He died after a “police-involved” shooting. This language is taken direct from police sources and is purposefully vague- the police didn’t necessarily shoot him, they were just “involved.” Maybe the guy shot at them first? He didn’t, but you wouldn’t know that from this headline.”
