On #WorldTheatreDay, we reflect on artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer’s (@lozanohemmer) 2009 performance-installation “Level of Nothingness,” commissioned for the Guggenheim performing arts series @worksandprocess in the Peter B. Lewis Theater. Inspired by Vasily #Kandinsky’s exploration of synesthesia, most notably in “Yellow Sound” (1912), a composition in which he proposes linking the senses using levels of abstraction. Lozano-Hemmer utilized a computerized microphone to analyze live voice in real time and extracted physical and linguistic data that, in turn, controlled a full rig of rock-and-roll concert lights, creating a quiet color show that surrounded the theater and its audience. Learn more about the performing arts series, and about the Guggenheim's commitment to performance and other time-based mediums, at guggenheim.org/performance. #Guggenheim #WorksandProcess
