Milky Way, bright Venus, and the faint misty Zodiacal Light, like a cone-shaped band coming out of the horizon. When you travel to dark locations, far from city light in a moonless night, look for this diffuse glow after dusk or before dawn, best in March-April evenings and Sep-Oct mornings, and throughout the year from equatorial region. It is the sunlight reflected from asteroid dust particles in the solar system. From Earth it is seen along the ecliptic, the orbital path of the Sun, Moon and planets in the sky.
This view was in 2014 at the southern edge of Atacama Desert in Chile, while I was on imaging assignment for European Southern Observatory.
