One last thing - yes, female pornstars generally get paid more than our male counterparts in the porn industry. But this is for several reasons that I think u may not be aware of: 1) We do more work than the men. Women get to set early in the morning, go through hair/makeup, do an entire photo shoot, perform teases, and sometimes do an interview. This generally takes 4 - 6 hours total. That’s before the guy even steps foot on the set. Male performers are often only around for 2 hours out of an 8 hour work day. 2) The work for women actually starts even before we even get to set. We are required to wardrobe shop, maintain our hair/skin/nails, prep our assholes if it’s anal.... yes, the men do this too, but to a much, much lesser degree. 3) We are more valuable in the monetization of the final product. For the most part, female names are what sell the scenes we shoot. The female pornstars are what drive more traffic. Do u think if Julia Roberts is in a movie with an unknown male actor, she doesn’t deserve to get paid more? There are a *handful* of male pornstars with this kind of “star power,” and guess what - they get rates as high as the women. 4) We sacrifice more to do porn. As I mentioned before, women are more often shunned for doing sexwork, whereas men are more often celebrated. When a woman says she does porn, everyone wants to know why, and assume she is “damaged goods.” When a man says he does porn, he is given a high five and nobody questions why he would choose to get laid and get paid for it. 5) We risk more. It’s awkward to talk about, but women are at higher risk for STDs. Because the lining of the vagina is thinner/more delicate than the skin on a penis, it’s easier for bacteria and viruses to penetrate us.... So to summarize: we do more work, we bring in more money, we sacrifice more, and we risk more. Our wage gap isn’t a sexism issue; its simply that when it comes to porn, female stars do more and therefor earn more. (Ps thank u @chris_bluerock for the ?)
