Gli anniversari, drammatici o gioiosi che siano, sono il respiro che ossigena la memoria (e dunque la vita) di ogni individuo, di ogni comunità. Siamo, infatti, ciò che siamo stati, e ricordare il passato ci nutre della forza per progettare il futuro. 
L’atto di confinare nei limiti di ventiquattr’ore l’anno, il ricordo dei diritti e la condanna delle discriminazioni subite dal genere femminile, potrebbe essere interpretato come una risoluzione ipocrita, quando non velatamente maschilista. Perché il sopruso e l’ingiustizia, che sia di genere o no, urge condannarlo e combatterlo ogni giorno, senza tregua.
Comprendo e plaudo, per contro, la necessità di un momento calendarizzato in cui la gente venga sollecitata da un lato a festeggiare tutti noi, figli dello stesso Padre, dall’altro a riflettere sulle gravi disparità che – più o meno apertamente – sussistono ancora, radicate in molte parti del mondo.
Alzo il calice e brindo all’intero, meraviglioso universo femminile, che da sempre mi avvince e dal quale non passa giorno che io non impari qualcosa di nuovo.

Anniversaries, both dramatic and joyful, give breath to the memory (and, therefore, to the life) of any person and community. We are what we have been, so remembering the past strengthens and prepares us to plan our future.
Confining the memory of the rights and the condemnation of the discriminations endured by womankind to twenty-four hours a year may be interpreted as a hypocrite, if not sexist decision. In fact, we should condemn and fight tyranny and injustice, both gender-based and not, every day, restlessly.
However, I understand and praise the need of a timetabled moment which encourages all of us, children of the same Father, to celebrate and think about the striking inequalities that – more or less openly – exist today in many parts of the world.
I raise my glass and celebrate the whole, wonderful feminine world, which has always enthralled me. Not a day goes by that I don’t learn something new from it.
