#WOMENSDAY. Today we celebrate the strength of women. Meet Cathy Freeman. Australia’s first Aborigine athlete to earn a medal in an individual event. She lit the cauldron in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney and won the Olympic gold in a time of 49.11 seconds as the home favourite. Freeman, who carried both the Aboriginal Australian and National Australian flags on her victory lap, announced her retirement in 2003. In 2007, she founded the Cathy Freeman Foundation which works with four remote Indigenous communities to close the gap in education between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australian children. #IWD2018 #womensday
