When people see the thousand-foot-high face of El Capitan rising above the sandy plains of west #Texas at #GuadalupeMountains #NationalPark, they probably don’t think about the ocean. However, that massive limestone formation was formed 260 million years ago from plants and animal skeletons on the floor of an ancient sea.
