At the age of 19, this kid named Alfredo Rodríguez was chosen to represent Cuba at the @montreuxjazzfestival in the International Solo Piano Competition. He had a little dream that one day he'd become an internationally acclaimed musician, but that dream seemed to come to end when his name wasn't called as a finalist...The next day, he & the other contestants were invited to my brother Claude Nob’s Chalet (the founder of the festival) up in the Swiss mountains, where I happened to be. ((:0)) Alfredo, the winner, & the other contestants were asked to play some music, & even though they were all great musicians, I felt there was something absolutely special about Alfredo. After coming back to LA, I couldn't get my mind off of his performance, & knew I wanted to work with him. Little did I know, after inviting him to come work together in the U.S., Alfredo had only received permission to travel to Switzerland to play in the competition because he was representing the country & it was actually illegal to work with him due to the Cuban embargo. Long story short, Alfredo defected a couple of years later after making the impossible decision to leave his family & everything he had, in hopes of creating a better future for himself & his music. We picked him up from LAX with only a suitcase full of sheet music & the clothes on his back...I know I've told this story many times, but today is a special day because his new album "The Little Dream" is finally here!! I hope this album serves as a reminder to what you are capable of when you believe in yourself & put in the work to back it UP! Alfredo achieved his dream of becoming an internationally acclaimed pianist but isn't stopping any time soon!!...I couldn't be more proud to have produced this album with you my brother. A full circle moment!! You deserve every drop of it @alfredormusic.
