Thanks to the great Sacha Pfeiffer and Jenn Abelson at the @bostonglobe Spotlight team for covering the culture of sexual harassment within the fashion industry, and for giving many women and men working within it a place for their voices to be heard. I hope that it is a wake-up call for us all to hold people accountable for their behavior, and to take real steps towards protecting the most vulnerable among us. My little story included is a small part of what I have experienced working in this industry for 12 years. I know it is not the worst thing that’s happened to a model, which is part of why I shared it. Because I know for a fact that abuses much worse have occurred to people I care about, who cannot share their own stories. For all my friends who have been touched inappropriately, made to change in front of people, been pressured into doing nudes (or been thrown off set when they refused), been plied with drugs and alcohol, been demeaned, been sexually assaulted and raped, we are all standing with you. I hope the major brands and publishers mentioned can put their money where their mouth is and follow through on their promises to protect their models, and not further employ the people we all know have a history of mistreatment ? #timesup
