I didn’t do brother Starski true justice in my post, y’all think I love music lessons? Follow the god @dart_adams for that edumuhcation #Repost @dart_adams ・・・ Lovebug Starski epitomizes the divide between being a Hip Hop legend/pioneer versus being someone who was valued by the Rap music industry. Starski was a hybrid DJ/MC in The Bronx beginning as the late legendary Pete DJ Jones’ record boy/protege, he also served as a link in the chain of the evolution into emceeing as we know it today, as the Glover Brothers (Melle Mel & Kid Creole) were setting the aesthetic for emceeing as a unit with Keith Keith (Cowboy) as Grandmaster Flash’s 3 MC’s, Lovebug Starkski & DJ Hollywood were the DJ/MC’s controlling the crowds & rocking the house in the clubs. Unfortunately, no matter how influential, groundbreaking & legendary Lovebug Starski was to the Hip Hop community (even Busy Bee began using Starski which Kool Moe Dee pointed out during the event that changed battle Rap forever), it never quite translated into success in terms of a recording career. He recorded several singles & even this LP “House Rocker” dropped in 1986 at the top of the Golden Era when Rakim, KRS One & Kool G Rap just hopped on the scene while Run DMC, Whodini, LL Cool J, The Fat Boys & The Beastie Boys were all dominant. Most of the old school pioneers never got the respect, reverence or due they deserved from the Rap industry or Rap fans who don’t know shit about the Disco Fever, Rooftop or WHY Biggie shouted him out on “Juicy” with his old partner mixtape king Brucie B. There are the folks Hip Hoppers revere & honor & the folks Rap fans revere & honor. I wish this era was full of cats both groups honored & revered together. Rest in eternal peace to Hip Hop pioneer & legend, the influential & incomparable Lovebug Starski.
