I had seen these same peaks in Algeria’s #Hoggar Mountains some thirty years earlier. But now that I had returned with a motorized paraglider, I had a rare opportunity to see them in a new way. My pilot-friend François looked a bit skeptical about the take-off spot, but shrugged and replied with something like “Looks good, you go first!”. It was clear that after running off the cliff there would be no Plan B. But the wind caught my glider at the cliff edge, and I quickly soared away. François soon followed me into the sky, and we flew until sunset, with exhilarating views over the roof of the #Sahara. That night we stayed in the nearby refuge at 2780M, and found the following French note on the bulletin board (swipe right) saying that all ultralight flying was prohibited. Yet another reminder that it’s always easier to get forgiveness than it is permission! #Hoggar #Assekrem
