Photo by @salvarezphoto (Stephen Alvarez) A virtual photo of a real cave. I've been on assignment for @ancientartarchive lately building a 3D model of this cave in the Southern United States. The project is to build an accurate virtual model of this cave. To do it I shoot thousands over overlapping images and assemble them into a photo-realistic virtual environment. It is one of the techniques the feature film world uses to create the fantastic worlds we see in films like Avatar. We are using the technique to recreate the real world and show it in ways that would otherwise be impossible.
