“With an apple I will astonish Paris” —Paul Cézanne, born today in 1839. Cézanne loved the rich colors and basic shapes of fruit, and enjoyed the challenge of creating a great painting using everyday objects. With subjects that did not move, Cézanne could be slow and analytical with his work. Sometimes the fruit or flowers he used would wither and die before the painting was completed and would need to be replaced by paper flowers and artificial fruit. Enjoy “Still Life: Flask, Glass and Jug” (1877), on view in our #ThannhauserCollection gallery.
