I respectfully reached out to the executive director of the Humane Society of Erie County in Ohio, who is doing great things for the welfare of animals in her area. ❤️I tried to inspire her to at least educate the public about the facts about declawing and have a no declaw clause in their adoption contract.?? We had a respectful dialogue but she said, “My staff are trained to tell people when asked, that we NEVER declaw and do not give advice about it whatsoever. They need to contact their Veterinarian who provides routine care for their pets about this and have that discussion with them.” My question to her is what would it hurt if she educated the public about the awful truth about declawing so that they possibly wouldn’t want to do such a harmful and inhumane procedure to the cats and kittens they adopt. ? Unfortunately the local vets don’t seem to think there’s anything wrong with this mutilating procedure and they all perform them routinely. ? This comment from one of the local vets is probably the most ignorant and shocking comments I’ve ever heard about declawing from a vet. ?????? “The local veterinarian said comparisons between human anatomy and cat anatomy are misleading. Cats are declawed because they have little feeling in the tips of their paws, and corrective surgery can avoid much of the pain of the procedure, the veterinarian said.” ????????? This is a perfect example of why we must ban declawing and protect cats from these vey unethical people who call themselves doctors. Shameful and unbelievable that any vet would say such a false statement. ????? Please make sure you leave respectful and educational comments on the story. It’s obvious that we need to educate the public in this area about the facts about declawing because the local vets clearly aren’t.
