Jake Gyllenhaal didn’t land a Golden Globe nomination for his performance in @strongerthefilm. But the 37-year-old actor is still in contention for an #Oscar nomination for his performance as Jeff Bauman, a Boston Marathon bombing survivor who lost the lower half of his legs. Rather than tracing the familiar arc of the hero’s journey, the film plumbs Jeff’s ambivalence about being noisily celebrated as a patriot after the atrocity. Jake spent a year with Jeff before he started shooting the movie. “When you’re with him, anything that you might normally complain about ends up seeming so petty and small,” Jake said of Jeff. “That’s how he makes you feel.
