Happy New year! This is a picture of me taken during the filming of MindField by @huntfilmwork. It was right after we started the Berrics. I broke my ankle during the process which resulted in my shortest and most underwhelming part I ever had, however, while injured, I came up with so many ideas for what The Berrics would soon become. Wednesday’s With Reda, Butteryass Mondays, Bangin!, Battle Commander, Recruit, United Nations and the list goes on. • But, as we continued to grow, the work became more than I ever imagined and I slowly stepped into the background. Partly due to exhaustion, mostly because I thought it was odd to build a media platform and use it to promote my own skating. I had accomplished everything I had dreamed of in skateboarding. What I really wanted was to build something that would allow other people to accomplish what they wanted. • During the process, however, as new people came into skateboarding they forgot how personal connected I was to the site and our social channels and, in my opinion, that was what made us so successful. Sometimes my voice was serious but hopefully, most times, it lived up to the hashtag we created; #SkateboardingIsFun. • I’m posting this old photo of me because it’s a time where my head was full of fresh ideas and ready to go, like how it is now. I’m glad 2017 is behind us. A lot of lessons were learned. A lot of things I had to fix and am still fixing. Owning a business is not always fun, but sometimes you have to pull back in order to move forward. • I look forward to 2018 and bringing you more of your favorite people who ride for your favorite brands, new brands you’ve never heard of and new faces you’ve never seen.
