I watched a documentary on Walter J. Freeman, who brought #lobotomy across America as a “last resort” for patients suffering from mental health issues. This was at a time when people who were suffering with anything from schizophrenia to depression were hidden away from society in mental institutions. His procedure allowed these people to return to their homes and eliminated their suffering. After pharmaceuticals were introduced to address some of these issues, Dr. Freeman’s methods became thought of as barbaric and he was eventually stripped of his medical license. There are people still alive who were Dr. Freeman’s patients, I wonder if in 50 years there will be mental health solutions that make pharmaceuticals seem barbaric. #jgspdxreviews
