I was on assignment for National Geographic.
One day in #Ankara, I came upon this father who was using his only day off to teach his son to fly a kite on the ramparts of an ancient fortress. I loved this moment of connection between a father and son.
Here, in this ancient quarter of Ankara, a city that has been a cultural crossroads from the era of the Hittite Empire to the present day as the modern capital of the country, this intimate exchange reminded me of my son Delazad, who had been born just a few months earlier. It evoked the passing down of human values that I feel is at the heart of the duties of a father, from time immemorial.

Across the world, each parent tries to accompany their child as they discover the other, the horizons that demarcate their world, and thus a dialogue with one’s roots, that make us what we are, and make our journey towards what we shall become possible.
