Erosion from glaciers has formed the North Cascades into one of the steepest and most rugged mountain ranges in the lower 48. Some peaks have an astounding 8,000+ feet of elevation gain, like Mt. Shuksan on the left side of this image which rises 8,400' on it's south side.
