Photo by @bethjwald // I am thankful for the astounding diversity of life on this planet, and that there are still places where we can connect with wild nature and encounter creatures that take our breath away, like this paradise tanager (Tangara chilensis) in the montane tropical forest of the Cordillera del Condor in southeast Ecuador, in the headwaters of the Amazon. Although the region and its incredible biological and cultural diversity is threatened by large-scale metal mines, there remain big tracts of untouched forest that shelter spectacular birds, animals, amphibians, reptiles, plants and are the ancestral home of the Shuar nation. I am thankful that many of the Shuar, often at great personal cost, and a variety of grassroots organizations continue the struggle to protect the Condor region. I am trying this week to remind myself of things I am thankful for, to reflect and gather inspiration to continue the work, posting photos from my #archive.
