An ad just popped up in my Facebook feed; some yoga teacher person talking about a SUPER SALE for yoga pants on Black Friday - “use the code SELF LOVE and get 25% off on yoga pants!!!!!!” Uuuuhhh. ?? Feel sick to my stomach by “yoga”-brands using words like self love to push product to people on what is the single shittiest non-holiday of the year. SELF LOVE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOGA PANTS! Hey world! How about this Black Friday, you DON’T exploit peoples longing to care for themselves by trying to sell them things they don’t need?! If you’re reading this: you don’t need new yoga pants. Pinkie swear. This Friday, go outside. Hike a mountain. Walk your dog. Swim in the ocean if the weather allows it. Have coffee with a friend. Practice yoga (naked! In your pjs! Or in the same goddamn pants you wore last week!). Do anything that makes you feel more alive. Oh! And don’t forget to be grateful❤️? #thanksgiving EDIT: if it’s unclear by my words above - my annoyance lies with this brand, not a person. I have nothing against people adding to their paycheck by promoting a product here and there. I do it too sometimes! My problem is the brand, whose core values are rooted in everything but this practice. And the ad I saw was promoted by a man, for all commenters telling me I’m “shaming a woman” (however that is relevant). My problem is not these teachers, it’s the big marketing push for overpriced yoga pants (fitting size 0-4!) masquerading as “self love”. At least call it for what it is! USE THE CODE “SUPER SALE!” FOR 25% OFF! Just be genuine in your blatantly obvious campaign. It’s not that hard? (more in story)⬆️
