We are deeply disappointed to hear that the United States is lifting its ban on elephant trophies. Despite being listed as a vulnerable species, hunters that legally kill an elephant in Zimbabwe and Zambia between 2016–2018 will now be able to obtain a permit to import their ‘trophy’ into the US.
We strongly believe that no animal should be hunted for ‘sport’ in the name of conservation. Reversing the trophy import ban imposed in 2014, which was aimed at protecting the species, is a backward step for ethical conservation efforts.
