Last night was crazy! I really didn’t know what to expect in my first ever Lead World Cup. After the qualification round I was incredibly happy to have made it into the Semi Final. I felt calm and ready to go out and try hard. I had no expectations. I just wanted to climb. I sat in the corridor waiting for my turn to climb. I remembered sitting in exactly the same spot many years ago at my first European Youth Competition. As I tied in I felt a familiar flutter of nerves in my tummy. It was a welcome sensation. I was ready to climb. The first half of the route was much easier than expected. The crux move was a deep lock with awkward foot placements off a volume. There was very little cheering as I climbed the lower sections of the route. And then I hit the hold above the yellow volume and the crowd erupted. It was insane. I kept climbing. I hadn’t really expected to get this high. I fought my way up a few more moves and before I knew it I was back on the ground. My forearms burning and my mind racing. Well that was pretty cool. I didn’t know I was in finals until @thecircuitclimbing told me as I was being rushed off to do an interview. Overwhelmed, tired and totally buzzing I watched the end of the final and the headed back to our apartment to eat steak and have a glass of red wine. We had some hilarious entertainment with wonderful company. Lots of laughter and stories. Tonight I get to climb again. The finals will take place at 5pm local time (4pm GMT). I’ve already achieved more than I expected here. It’s been such a fun ride so far and I can’t wait to climb again later! ?
