Day of the Dead

“Maybe you’d like to stop at this cemetery?” My guide Martín was driving past what seemed like a town for tiny people tucked into the base of the mountains.

“No one ever wants to stop, so I almost don’t ask, but maybe you do?”

I do. He pulls over. Cemeteries draw me in and I can’t help but wander around, trying to absorb the dearly departed’s stories.

We share this planet as much with the dead as the living. The rituals of how we honor them, bury them, venerate or visit them varies by culture and I’m fascinated by all of them.

What we learn and how we advance is pushed forward by each life that moves us further along. Take a moment and thank those that came before you. None of us just showed up on earth, but are the product of every contribution of humanity.
