Each evening we would paddle until the sun began to set, collecting any available driftwood we spotted along the water line and keeping our eyes peeled for a flat spot to camp. Camp site selection became a favorite game, each night looking for a cozy nook in which to harbor our boats and hunker close around a fire, sharing stories and hot drinks as the winter stars twinkled in the clear desert air.
