“It has to be completely authentic,” said the @abtofficial principal dancer @gillianemurphy of “Other Dances” by #JeromeRobbins, part of ABT's fall season @lincolncenter. “There’s no sort of ‘performing’ for the audience. It’s all feeling the music and connecting with that and with your partner.” Choreographed in 1976 for #NataliaMakarova and #MikhailBaryshnikov, “Other Dances,” set to Chopin, is a celebration of classical ballet technique that leaves no room for mannerism. But as Gillian’s partner, @cory_stearns, put it, it provides a lot of space for “real artistic interpretation. It’s different than other pieces where you’re so focused on dancing the steps correctly. This is motivated by who you truly are.
