#CaiGuoQiang, designer of the fireworks at the 2008 Olympics opening ceremony in Beijing, used ink and gunpowder to make "Ascending Dragon: Project for Extraterrestrials No. 2" (1989), on view in #ArtandChina. The drawing was made for an "explosion event"—the artist's term for his firework displays—to be executed in the South of France, but was never realized. The mountain Cai's dragon form would "ascend" is Mont Sante-Victoire, made famous in a series of paintings by the French post-Impressionist Paul Cézanne.
