Meet Alphie, the first TSA canine to be awarded the @AmericanHumane Lois Pope LIFE K-9 Medal of Courage! He accepted the honor this evening at the Rayburn Office Building Foyer on Capitol Hill. Alphie is a TSA explosives detection canine at the Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) and works with TSA handler Lesley Runnell.

Prior to entering the TSA workforce, Alphie worked as a military working dog in the U.S. @アメリカ海兵隊, trained to “sniff out” both heroin and explosives. He retired from the Military Working Dog program in 2014, after serving in a deployment to Afghanistan in 2013.

Lesley and Alphie have worked together at TSA for more than three years, serving at several airports nationwide: Chicago, New York, Orlando, Seattle, Tampa, Denver, and most recently assigned to Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers.
