My mother once sent me the War Department Education Manual EM 603, "Discovering Music: A Cause in Music Appreciation" which basically served to point out everything "wrong" with jazz. She was trying to convince me that it simply wasn't worth pursuing...And if you've ever read it, you know exactly what I'm talking about...Well, it sure didn't work because today, I'm proud to announce that we surpassed our @kickstarter goal to launch @qwest.tv! ? And it makes me even more proud to announce that jazz has definitely been worth the pursuit, & we won't stop 'til we drop! If it weren't for the jazz greats who adopted me, I would've wound up roaming the streets in a gang (which is where I was headed) or even dead. Jazz is not only "worth it" to me, because today, with YOUR help, it's evident that it means a lot to you as well. "This is how I Feel About Jazz" was one of my first albums, & today, I feel the same excitement as I did when I released it in '56...Truly a full circle moment. America is one of the only countries to not have a Minister of Culture & I believe that it is a huge reason for our lack of identity. The only way for our descendants to know about their ancestors & how they shaped history is for us to pass down the stories...I can't think of a better way to do so than through music. Thank you all for your support & I can't wait to hear your thoughts about the platform once its unveiled at the end of 2017. Today is also a special day because it is what would've been my idol, Thelonious Monk's 100th birthday!!...Monk, I hope QWEST TV makes you proud! Happy birthday!
