Photo and text by Ben Mikha @BenMikha | My favourite place on Earth: Samoa. This is a small Island in the middle of the Pacific where my mother comes from. Each year I try to take a trip across to relax and unwind to “Island time”. The population is around 143,000, it’s summer all year round, and there are hidden slices of paradise like this ocean trench formed by volcanic activity. The water is an emerald green and has its own tides thanks to a small opening at the base which you can actually swim through if you’re good at holding your breath. As you can see, a local and I decided to take the short way down and jump from the top rather than taking the ladder. When you’re in the water, you can float on your back and look up at the native fauna hanging off the cliff face while the sun seeps through. Samoa is quite an untouched place, the locals live in a self sustainable manner, TV’s are often square boxes and the cars often date back to the 70s. I planned to keep this slice of paradise secret, but the beauty of this vibrant country deserves to be showcased to the world. Please, if you go, respect the local traditions and leave only footprints.
