There is always an opposing view. There will always be those who think that to oppose is to rebel and that to rebel is divine. And, there will always be those that think that saying "Fuck you!" on this faceless, protected social media is brave. We have this platform to express ourselves, and there will always be those who scorn that expression. We have our beliefs and with those beliefs we blindly, and sometimes without a sliver of compassion denounce the belief system of others for no apparent reason other than having the anonymity and platform to do so. Why do we care if that person doesn't have a direct impact on us, what they do with their freedom? Because we can. Because social media has allowed us that transport. But face to face is a harder reality. Looking at someone and realizing that we are fallible is too complex: we are a fickle lot. We hate and we later divine then we hate again, whatever makes us feel the best. Most of us are sheep, but we are sheep with a sturdy steel mask of false pride; we secretly hide and shoot BB guns from behind a tree at passerby's and we laugh at their pain. We like to hurt because it makes us feel powerful, affective, alive. Some parents force their kids to be in a 'respectable profession' and others support them even if they choose to drive a dump truck. Some parents want a friend and don't want to parent because it would mean not being liked for a moment. It takes all kinds. We are imperfect and some truly strive to do their best, looking out for their fellow man, woman, and child within a self cultivated paradigm that represents for them a life lived awake: a life not wasted. I don't care what you believe as long as you're not hurting me, my family or my friends. If you represent an opposing view, all the more American we stand tall, but if you are out to hurt my fellow man, woman, or child, if you do not pull your weight in offering up a helping hand if someone is drowning, then I might even feel for you, as you will know, if you are half sane, that you are not truly American, that your voice is nothing but a silent scream with a like attached to it or left alone as an outline of an empty heart.
