#SpeakingInDance | “This material is living in a kind of hybrid space of visual art and dance,” said the choreographer @hellobethgill. “It’s asking you to be patient. It’s asking you to look with a really detailed eye. And it’s asking you to feel materials.” In “Brand New Sidewalk,” at @abronsartscenter this week, the dancer Danielle Goldman painstakingly removes @bailleyounkman’s colorful layers of clothing: “On one hand, it’s like a striptease,” Beth said. “But the intention is more about finding a kind of expressivity in the formal nature of each of these materials — their color, their texture and how they behave.” Beth said she finds the light blue fabric to have a soothing, almost “fondant” quality; the yellow has richness. “The way that it sprawls and stretches feels sensual,” she told the @ニューヨーク・タイムズ writer @giadk. “And then, in a good way, I have mixed feelings about the form that gets assembled on her head: She looks like she could be a woman somewhere.
