The slender-tailed meerkats (Suricata suricatta) may be some of the smaller animals at Taronga, but what they lack in stature they make up for in personality! Meerkats are typically desert dwellers and their features are well suited to these arid environments - the dark patches around their eyes, for example, lessen the glare from the sun (just as sunglasses would) and their little ears can close in the event of a sand storm.
