Millions of tourists visit #Tuscany every year, unaware of the natural paradise beyond the region’s beaches and the culture of its ancient cities. Locals know better — from Lucca and Florence and Pisa and elsewhere, they make day trips in search of cold rivers and wooded walks. The goal, Alessio Trillini, 38, says, is “to get away from the crowds and seek out places more off the beaten tracks. And so I have always sought out the rivers.” He continued: “It’s more authentic here, especially compared with the conformity of the coast, which is so focused on consumerism and finding ways to spend money. Here instead it feels like a return to a more natural and ancient way of life and leisure.” @massimovitali_omissamilativ took this photo of locals relaxing in the clear, fresh water of Serra Creek in #Malbacco. We’ll be sharing more photos from @nytmag’s Voyages issue over the next couple of days. Visit the link in our profile to see more. #NYTMagVoyages
