Photo by @max.lowe // Caught in soft afternoon light, The Potala Palace, once home to the Dalai Lama and one of the last few fully preserved and standing architectural remnants of the kingdom of Tibet, still carries on each day in all her glory in downtown Lhasa. Inside monks still recite the ancient prayers and protect sacred texts dictating the history of Tibetan Buddhism and the people who bear its teachings. Outside the Potala and the few Tibetan monasteries in the old city though, the influx of modern Chinese influence and tourism in the region has turned the once hidden ancient kingdom into a bustling modern metropolis.
