I climbed this hill to get a better look at Elkwater Lake.

More unexpected to me were all the hills covered in pine trees. After days of driving around flat golden prairie lands, the deep green gorgeousness of cypress trees was a beautiful change of scenery.
.
Another thing to love about the Canadian Badlands - the land can change dramatically, suddenly. The colors can go from grey sandstones to yellow fields to forest green trees to purple sky in a day.

Thanks to my friend Pete @hecktictravels for being such a great tour guide for the region and for being willing to climb around Cypress Hills Park taking photos all day. ???
