Humans have been observing solar eclipses for centuries — early Mesopotamians wrote that the sun was “put to shame” when one occurred in 14th century B.C.E. Nowadays, we have a much more positive outlook on this celestial phenomenon, and science fans everywhere have been counting down to today. For a @tededucation lesson, Andy Cohen explains what exactly happens during a total solar eclipse. Only a handful of states will be lucky enough to see it in totality today, but even the partial eclipse is a sight to behold.
