The Wavestorm Classic Longboard is a soft surfboard that sells for $100 at Costco. The Wavestorm World Championship is a soft-top-surfboard-only contest, founded in 2015 by the big-wave surfer Shawn Dollar and some friends. Part demolition derby, part beach party, it has no affiliation with Costco and serves as a kind of sendup of the “kooks” (or surf newbies) who tend to ride on these boards. “No matter who you are, when you ride a Wavestorm, you’re a kook,” Dollar says.
